About Tranquil Interiors

Tranquil Interiors began with a simple but powerful observation: the spaces we inhabit shape the lives we live within them.

And it’s that very clear realization that has shaped founder Deanna Girardot’s work for nearly three decades.

A group of five people, three women and two children, are discussing or examining a large patterned poster or paper on a white wall in a room. The women are engaged, with one woman touching the poster, while the others look on, all dressed casually.

About Deanna Girardot, SIDC

Long before she had the language of neuroaesthetics and biophilic design, she was paying attention to something deeper than aesthetics alone: the way a space is designed can either support the people within it, or slowly work against them.

But most clients weren’t coming to her with clear language for this at all…they simply understood that their home no longer reflected the lives unfolding inside it. They felt something was off, and their spaces no longer fit who they are or how they live.

Over time, that perspective became impossible to ignore. When a space truly supports the people within it, the transformation is never only visual. It changes how much more easily they move through their daily lives, how they rest, gather, restore. How they feel in their own home.

Today, her Science in Design Certification has given stronger language to what she’d already been practicing all along: creating restorative environments that do more than look beautiful. They support the way people truly long to live.

“The reveal is only one moment in the story.

What matters most to me is that my clients feel seen, heard, and supported from our first conversation through years of living in their completed space.

By understanding what brings them calm, connection, and a sense of sanctuary, I can create environments that are not only beautiful but also deeply personal and restorative.”

Deanna Girardot, SIDC is the founder and principal designer of Tranquil Interiors, a West Michigan interior design studio creating restorative residential and boutique commercial environments along the Lakeshore and beyond. With more than 30 years of industry experience, Deanna brings a rare blend of design expertise, deep listening, and science-informed insight to every project.

Her passion for architecture and design began at just 14 years old and led her to graduate from Sullivan College of Technology & Design in Louisville in 1998. She founded Tranquil Interiors in 2014 with a clear point of view: the environments we inhabit should support how we live, work, rest, and connect with what matters most.

Today, Deanna’s work is strengthened by her Science in Design Certification, with a focus on neuroaesthetics and biophilic design principles that explore how our environment affects the nervous system, stress recovery, productivity, and overall wellbeing. Her approach bridges the gap between scientific insight and everyday life, translating it into luxurious, custom spaces that feel as supportive as they are beautiful.

After relocating Tranquil Interiors to Grand Haven, Michigan in 2023, Deanna brought her long-held love of West Michigan’s Lakeshore into a new season of practice, creating homes and workspaces that feel authentic, restorative, and deeply personal.

Whether guiding a new build, renovation, furnishings project, or small commercial environment, she is known for her attentiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to shape spaces that truly support the people within them.

“Deanna is always making me think about the space around me in new ways.

She really opened my eyes on why it is so vital to bring natural elements into our indoor spaces - that our homes and offices shouldn't just be designed to be functional, but also to support our well-being on multiple levels.”

Deanna’s Signature Seminar:
The Power of Sanctuary

The Power of Sanctuary™ is a thoughtful, science-informed seminar about the way our environments shape how we feel, function, rest, and connect. Drawing from neuroaesthetics and biophilic design, Deanna Girardot, SIDC shows how light, texture, layout, rhythm, and sensory cues influence the nervous system long before we consciously register them, and why that matters in homes, workplaces, and wellness-oriented spaces.

At the heart of the talk is a simple but powerful idea: beautiful spaces are not enough. The spaces we inhabit should help us live and feel better.

Through real-world examples and an accessible, human-centered lens, Deanna translates emerging research into practical insight people can actually use, helping audiences understand how design can reduce friction, foster belonging, improve rest, and create environments that feel more restorative and aligned with daily life.

Attendees will leave with:

  • A clearer understanding of how environment affects wellbeing, focus, rest, and connection.

  • Practical ways to think about sanctuary, flow, belonging, and restorative design in everyday spaces.

  • Fresh insight into neuroaesthetics and biophilic design without jargon or overwhelm.

  • A new perspective on how intentional design can support real life, not just visual appeal

Ideal for:

  • Homeowners and design-curious audiences

  • Wellness, health, and lifestyle organizations

  • Chambers, women’s groups, and professional associations

  • Builders, real estate professionals, and workplace leaders

  • Podcasts and panels exploring design, wellbeing, or the built environment
